Biography

Dr. Timothy Plageman received his PhD in Molecular and Developmental Biology at the University of Cincinnati.  He continued his training at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Research Foundation as a post-doctoral researcher studying mechanisms of ocular development and joined the faculty in the College of Optometry at The Ohio State University in 2013.  A major goal of his research is to elucidate how embryonic eye tissues shape themselves during development at a cellular and molecular level and how disruptions in these mechanisms lead to ocular malformations or disease. To accomplish this goal, embryonic development of the eye is studied in both the mouse and chicken model systems and a variety of techniques are utilized that include static and live fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, histology, and molecular biology.
